As a classical singer and liturgical soloist, I've performed solo and ensemble songs for many wedding ceremonies. I feel privileged to be a part of a couple's special day. I hold a Master of Arts degree in vocal performance from California State University, Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Music degree from Chapman University. My background in opera and musical theater, and my extensive musical training, allow me to quickly learn songs in many styles and to offer a confident and expressive performance for your wedding.
CHOOSING MUSIC FOR YOUR CEREMONY
Music is an important part of your wedding ceremony. The style of music and the number of selections should be chosen to reflect the personal taste of the bride and groom, as well as the location of the ceremony. As a professional vocalist, I can help you with your choices.
Traditional church weddings usually incorporate a service of worship. In these settings, songs that reflect the love and blessings of God are preferred over those of a secular or strictly romantic nature. In many cases, the musical selections may have to be approved by the minister, priest or rabbi. Just because a song is popular and and pretty doesn't necessarily mean that the text would be appropriate for a worship service or for all the guests at your wedding. The church's policy as to instrumental accompaniment should also be taken into consideration when choosing musical selections.
Garden weddings and less strict church weddings can sometimes offer a larger range of musical choices, but you also have to consider whether accompanying instruments are available and whether this is important for the song you want to use.
DECIDING WHERE TO PUT THE SONGS
There are many opportunities during a wedding ceremony for songs. You can have songs during the lighting of the unity candle and between events, such as the vows and the ring exchange or between the seating of the mothers and the processional. While instrumental music is often used for the processional and recessional, occasionally brides prefer to walk down the aisle or have the bridesmaids enter to special vocal music.
Music before the service helps create the tone of the ceremony. One or two songs included with instrumental selections can create a joyous or spiritual atmosphere.
No matter what kind ceremony you have in mind, as a professional singer, I can add beautiful music to your special day.
